After 18 years of high profile, high-tech jobs, I sensed something was not quite right. My personal life and my work life were taking two different paths, one in search of meaning and purpose, and the other grasping at stability and security. It took a major personal crisis for me to realize that I needed to reinvent, for myself, a livelihood that expresses all of me.
As a business leadership coach, my passion is to develop in my clients the discipline and leadership skills to succeed.
Trained as an engineer, I integrate practical project management principles with cutting-edge leadership concepts, equipping people to move to action and create powerful and profitable results. I build 21st Century Leaders.
Born in the US of Indian and Dutch immigrant parents, I grew up in Quebec City, Canada before joining the Canadian Forces as a military aerospace research and development engineer. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics from the Royal Military College of Canada (Kingston, 1984) and a Master’s in Imaging Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, 1990). After 15 years of service, I left the military to launch a technology consulting business, then was involved in a major software development startup at the end of the 1990s.
A decisive, soul-searching moment in 2000 triggered a career change which led to the founding of the Visioneering Institute, which in 2011 became Startup-Académie. I have since helped hundreds of entrepreneurs across the US, Canada and Europe develop the leadership foundations of clarity, commitment, confidence and courage, always keeping an eye on tangible, profitable results.
My initial professional coaching training was with Thomas Leonard and CoachU. I also have extensive experience in personal development courses and studying with several notable authors, experts and leaders. I also am a voracious reader of books and blogs, keeping current with such thought leaders as Seth Godin, Guy Kawasaki, Dan Pink, Doc Searls, Malcolm Gladwell, and the new generation of startup authors such as Eric Ries, Steve Blank, Brad Feld and Alistair Croll.
I am very active in my local business community, as Vice-President of the Board at the Centre Local de Développement de Québec (Quebec City Local Economic Development Centre), Head Facilitator of FastTrac TechVenture Québec, and on the National Advisory Council of StartupCanada.
I am an Accredited Trainer with Emploi-Québec (Quebec Ministry of Employment).
