I found the whole thing a bit cringworthy. Looked to me a rather obvious attempt to copy Apple / Steve Job's techniques, presentation style and format. I really felt quite embarrassed for Jeff and Amazon, and it could also be seen as in somewhat bad taste, given Steve Job's current illness.

Do your own thing, Jeff. Be yourself - trying to be someone else when giving a speech or presentation just doesn't work. Find an Amazon format to present to the media - don't copy the Jobs / Apple format, it just looks embarrassing and doesn't come off as sincere.
Amazon is a great company - it should have more confidence in itself.

Very well said Davender. It took me almost a year to come up with my signature USP and message (3-Step Marketing Pro - because effective marketing doesn't have to be complicated) that would separate myself from ALL the other marketers out there - and I'm a marketer! So I can imagine how difficult it is for people with no marketing experience to do so.

It also seems to be a marketing model trend for high-profile coaches to entice coaching clients by offering/bonusing a chapter in their book, on their show, etc. Given that it is just another way for the coach to get extended reach by using that client as a means to generate and drive more interest to the overall project to inevitably sell the coach's services and not the client's. I can't say I agree with it. I had a very bad experience with a "client" who is a high profile coach and was doing this to her clients using a book. I believe her package was $6k because of this bonus. Integrity was definitely missing. I stepped away from helping her promote the book.

Thank you for an excellent blog entry!

We are kindreds ~ like you, following is not something I do... cookie cutter-churn out the same cog from the same mold is not who I am and certainly not what I value.

Your statement here says so much:

>>>>
I want my brand to be about connection, trust, feet-on-the-ground pragmatism combined with shoot-for-the-moon idealism. I want to stay real as I live my life project.
>>>>

Congrats on your continuing success. I am grateful I found you today via the Domino Projects #Trust30 challenge.
